Inspired by the sounds of Cape Verde, CPHR DVN releases new album, TERRA NOVA. Terra Nova, the new album/art collection from hip hop duo CPHR DVN (Cypher Divine) is a group of mixed media with a focus on music, art, and cuisine that draw from the Cape Verdean American experience from the early 1970’s to the present. The works in this series offer glimpses into the scattered memories of a young Cape Verdean girl and her family’s journey in America and the pursuit of the ever evasive American dream. Highlighted are themes from group member, Sultra’s childhood that begged the question, “who am I?” A question which in turn evolved into the answer of “I AM.” As a result the works are autobiographical in nature but hold universal ideals of family, hope and dreams of a better tomorrow.

Torn and scattered, the scraps of materials, images, lyrics and beats are woven together by memories of love, heartache, joy, disappointment and triumph. The quest for a better life will often times find you right were you started. Within you. The self reflection offers a narrativeinside the Cape Verdean American experience, which for Sultra has been a scattered assortment of beauty and discovery. Some of the sounds draw on nostalgia, while others are more cosmic in nature. Each piece is a snap shot of Cape Verdean American culture as experienced by group members, Sultra and Wize, with a tilt toward the cosmic and metaphysical. CPHR DVN’s version of Cape Verdean American culture has been inspired by what has happened around the duo over the last several decades. Wize’s production pulls from classic Cape Verdean sounds with influences of contemporary hip hop. From hip hop to plant-based food, from loss to new births, from the streets to the cosmos, Terra Nova explores these themes through unique textures, cosmic sonics, and sophisticated pallets.

Overall, the album invites the listener to reflect on their own life journey and to consider threading together some of the most impactful memories into a tapestry of unprecedented beauty.

The release of Terra Nova will also coincide with the release of limited series bundles which feature custom art pieces along with a limited release of an accompanying digital cookbook featuring several plant-based Cape Verdean dishes.
